Early development of power generation

Thomas Edison championed D.C. current while
Tesla and Westinghouse favored A.C. current as a means of power transmission. A.C. current was proven to be a better system of transferring electricity over longer distances.

Electricity occurs naturally in nature. For millennia Humans have looked in wonder at the electrical storms and lightning and dreamed of harnessing its power.
Electrification of the U.S.A.  &  Ireland

In 1935 Morris Cooke, an engineer, was  appointed by the U.S. President,Franklin Roosevelt, to carry out the electrification of rural America ,within two years  1.5 million farms had electricity. This brought immense benefits to rural America and helped farms produce larger yields and better quality crops. In Ireland The Rural Electrification Scheme was initiated in 1946 after WW2, having seen the benefits the American economy reaped from electrification Ireland was keen to follow and by 1965 circa 80% of rural houses had electricity.

Benefits of Electrification to society.

The Great depression electrification project(1935) and the Irish rural electrification scheme(1946) brought jobs and stimulated both economies at times of great hardship and lead the way for new products and innovations in both manufacturing and farming.Other benefits were the lighting of roads ,hospitals, schools, industry.an the creation of new home comfort devices all driven by electricity.
